HL52-61 Bituminous Epoxy Paint

Product Description:

A two-component coating composed of epoxy resin, coal tar pitch, rust resisting pigment, thickener and polyamide curing agent. Excellent water resistance and rust resistance; good chemical resistance and oil resistance; good adhesion, impact resistance, abrasion resistance; good cathodic protection performance.

Design Purpose:

Used for corrosion protection of hull bottom, ballast tank, crude oil tank, fuel oil tank, sewage tank, wharf steel column, offshore oil drilling platform, hydraulic steel gate, mine steel support, pipeline, steel or concrete.

Coating Data:

Color: brown, black

Gloss: semi-matte

Typical thickness: dry film thickness of 80-120 microns.

Theoretical coverage: 6.25 m²/L at the dry film thickness of 80 microns.

Practical coverage: allow proper loss coefficient.

Construction method: air spraying, airless spraying, brush coating, roller coating.

Surface treatment:

All surfaces to be coated shall be clean, dry and free from contaminants. All surfaces shall be evaluated and treated in accordance with ISO 8504:2000 prior to application.

Blasting

The surface is sand-blasted to conform to Sa2.5 (ISO 8501-1:2007) or SSPC-SP6 standard. If oxidation occurs between sand blasting and HL52-61 application, the surface shall be sand-blasted to conform to the specified visual standard.

Surface defects exposed during the sand blasting process shall be polished, filled or treated in a suitable manner.

It is recommended that the angular surface roughness be 50-75 microns.

Surface precoated with primer

All applicable primers used for HL52-61 undercoat shall be applied on surfaces that have been sand-blasted with steel grit to conform to Sa2.5 (ISO 8501-1:2007) or SSPC SP6 standard.

Construction description:

Mixing: this product is filled in two cans which form a unit. When being used, they shall be mixed in pairs by the prescribed proportion. Once they are mixed, it must be used within the specified mixing life.

(1) Stir base materials (component A) with a power stirrer.

(2) Mix all curing agents (component B) and base materials (component A) and thoroughly stir with a power stirrer.

Mixing service life: 5°C            15°C           25°C          40°C

10 hours          8 hours          6 hours          4 hours

Recommended construction method: Airless spraying: nozzle diameter: 0.43-0.53mm; the total paint pressure at the nozzle shall not be less than 176kg/cm².

Diluent: special epoxy diluent

Operation suspension: do not retain paint in the paint tube, the spray gun or the spraying equipment. Rinse all equipment thoroughly with special epoxy diluent. It is not recommended to reseal the paint after mixing. If the work is interrupted for too long time, it is recommended to remix a set of paints for construction.

Cleaning: All equipment shall be cleaned immediately with epoxy diluent after use. It is a good habit to wash the spraying equipment regularly in daily work. The cleaning frequency depends on quantity of spray, temperature and spraying time, including delayed time and other factors.

Residual paint and empty cans shall be disposed in accordance with the relevant regional regulations.

Product characteristics:

This product must be diluted only with the recommended diluent manufactured by CHANGZHOU DONGFANG COATING (NIGERIA) CO., LTD. The use of other diluents, especially those containing ketones, will seriously inhibit the paint curing process.

The coated surface temperature must be at least 3℃ above the dew point.

Like all epoxy resin paints, HL52-61 will be powdered and faded being exposed to the atmospheric environment. However, this phenomenon will not affect the corrosion resistance.

In order to ensure the longest repainting, excessive application shall not be allowed. The surface shall be completely clean and free of any pollutants.

System compatibility:

It is recommended that the following paints be used together with HL52-61: H53-82 epoxy zinc phosphate primer, H53-81 general-purpose epoxy primer and H53-85 epoxy intermediate paint.
